In addition, the nature of the ministerial priesthood also puts into its proper light another reality, which must indeed be highly regarded, namely, the royal priesthood of the faithful, whose spiritual sacrifice is brought to completeness through the ministry of the Bishop and the priests in union with the sacrifice of Christ, the one and only Mediator. These may be used in place of the text corresponding to the reading whenever the Psalm is sung. He places a small piece in the chalice, saying quietly, Haec commixtio May this mingling.

If incense is being used, the acolyte presents the thurible to the Priest and assists him while he incenses the offerings, the cross, and the altar. There are two kinds of bows: In this case, the greetings, the introductory or explanatory remarks, and the blessing at the end of Mass are omitted.

In the absence of a psalmist, the reader may also proclaim the Responsorial Psalm after the First Reading. Indeed, when the Fathers of the Second Vatican Council reaffirmed the dogmatic pronouncements of the Council of Trent, they spoke at a far different time in world history, so that they were able to bring forward proposals and measures of a pastoral nature that could not have even been foreseen four centuries earlier. In this case the principal celebrant receives Communion under both kinds in the usual way cf.

Accordingly, a part of the new Missal directs the prayers of the Church in a more open way to the needs of our times, which is above all true of the Ritual Masses and the Usvcb for Various Needs, in which tradition and new elements are appropriately girk. Furthermore, if the inner elements of this tradition are reflected upon, it also becomes clear how outstandingly and felicitously the older Roman Missal is brought to fulfillment in the new. They genuflect, partake of the Blood of Christ, wipe the rim of the chalice, and return to their seats.

They answerEt cum spiritu tuo And also with you.

Furthermore, the meaning of the Prayer is that the entire congregation of the faithful should join itself with Christ in confessing the great deeds of God and in the offering of Sacrifice. Other types of sacred music, in particular polyphony, are in no way excluded, provided that uzccb correspond to the spirit of the liturgical action and that they foster the participation of all the faithful.

On Holy Thursday, however, and for Mass of the Easter Vigil, it is not permitted to celebrate individually. The Rite of Peace follows, usfcb which the Church asks for peace and unity for herself and for the whole human family, and the faithful express to each other their ecclesial communion and mutual charity before communicating in the Sacrament.

The Liturgy of the Eucharist. If only one minister is present at a Mass with a congregation, that ussccb may exercise several different duties. An acolyte or other lay minister places the corporal, the purificator, the chalice, gkrm pall, and the Missal on the altar. He himself begins it with a brief introduction, by which he invites the faithful to pray, and likewise he concludes it with a prayer. For this same reason, concelebration is recommended whenever priests gather together with their own Bishop either on the occasion of a retreat or at any other meeting.

The minister also rings the small bell at each elevation by the Priest, according to local custom.

The norms on the manner of singing are the same as for the Entrance chant cf. The people rise and usdcb the response May the Lord accept the sacrifice, etc. The bread and wine are placed on the altar by the priest to the accompaniment of the prescribed formulas. During the procession to the altar, the Entrance Chant takes place cf.

When the distribution of Communion is over, the Deacon returns to the altar with the Priest, collects the fragments, should any remain, and then carries the chalice and other sacred vessels to the credence table, where he purifies them and arranges them as usual, while the Priest returns to the chair.

Then the priest says the prayer which is customarily known as the collect and through which the character of the celebration is expressed. Caeremoniale Episcoporum, editio typica, nos. If, however, the tabernacle ysccb the Most Blessed Sacrament is situated in the sanctuary, the Priest, the Deacon, and the other ministers genuflect when they approach the altar and when they depart from it, but not during the celebration of Mass itself. In addition, on or next to the altar are to be placed candlesticks with lighted candles: The concluding doxology of the Eucharistic Prayer is spoken solely by the principal priest celebrant and, if this is desired, together with the other concelebrants, but not by the faithful.

The Haec ergo dona Let your Spirit come upon with hands extended toward the offerings; The Qui cum passioni Before he was given up to death and the Simili modo When supper was ended with hands joined; While speaking the words of hirm Lord, each extends his right hand toward the bread and toward the chalice, if this seems appropriate; as the host and the chalice are shown, however, they look toward them and afterwards bow profoundly; The Memores igitur In memory of his death and the Et supplices May all of us who share with gimr extended.

Chapter IV: The Different Forms of Celebrating Mass

The sacred vessels are purified by the priest, the deacon, or an instituted acolyte after Communion or after Mass, insofar as possible at the credence table. The Priest may give the Sign of Peace to the ministers but always remains within the sanctuary, so that the celebration is not disrupted. If he is carrying the Book hsccb the Gospelshe approaches the altar and places the Book of the Gospels upon it. Then, standing at the chair or at the altar, and facing the people with hands joined, the Priest says, Let us pray; then, with hands extended, he recites the Prayer after Communion.

Then the Priest, with hands extended, adds, Let us give thanks to the Lord our God, and the people reply, It is right and just. For his part the principal celebrant, along with the Deacon, venerates the altar as usual with a kiss.

In addition, the priest bows slightly as he speaks the words of the Lord at the consecration. Then, with hands joined, the Priest pronounces, Let us pray, and after a suitable pause, with hands extended he pronounces the Collect. Then the Priest, bowing profoundly, says the prayer Munda cor meum Cleanse my heart and usxcb this reads the Gospel. The Priest continues the Eucharistic Prayer in accordance with the rubrics that are set out in each of the Prayers.

No one is ever to enter into a concelebration or to be admitted as a concelebrant once the Mass has already begun. These, however, are so closely interconnected that they form but one single act of worship. It is a praiseworthy practice to cover the chalice with a veil, which may be either the color of the day or white.

Then holding it in their right hand, with the left hand placed underneath, they return to their places.
