Butcher does a truly wonderful job with this characters. At that point, I didn’t even feel bad for them, but rather, I started questioning the author. Tavi still has to rely on his ingenuity more than his personal strength to overcome most obstacles which I think is what makes him such a likable character to me.

Yes, I am thinking about this movie: Awesome cast of characters and it has that whole who is “good” and who is “evil” theme. And while I didn’t particularly enjoy reading about the first part of their journey, they pulled a nice little twist on me at the end that made it all worthwhile. Of course it wouldn’t have been quite as enjoyable had the previous installments not been so well developed, interesting, and engaging.
Octavian learns more about the Canean civilization, which has several tribes with populations in the millions and also learns the Canim tongue as they prepare to disembark. I was genuinely sad to put this book down, and the idea of having to wait another 12 months for the next one is a painful one.
Instead of having two groups both of which are honestly striving to do the right thing, one of the two has already made choices that signify their corruption.

The Vord had overwhelmed four Imperial legions, leaving no survivors and the croach was expanding through Alera at an butchrr rate. Codex Alera Book 5 Paperback: The interplay between him and Max and Kitai are always my favorite scenes. Then he spoke in a very quiet, precise, measured voice.
It’s nice to see that good guys don’t always finish last! In sum, an excellent traditional epic fantasy that I completely failed as a reader. I gave this 4 stars because despite the skipping between story lines Jim Butcher really does write extremely well. Amara, Bernard and everyone else is soon locked in deadly battle with Butcher delivers furg again.
That being said, this book had a LOT of characters and by extension lots of view points. I’m not sure if the ideas just aren’t as good as they were, or if, at this point, there have been so many great ideas that the magic has finally started to feel mundane. Some sweet scenes breakfast on the shipsome poignant scenes reunion and some surprising scenes no telling. We are far less significant than we imagine ourselves to be. And now The Borg have landed in Alera and Canea. Codex Alera is a more mature effort, though.
